Comedy Showhouse 2017
Comedy Showhouse – Ireland’s live radio comedy festival – is back for a second series live at the Project Arts Centre for a 6 night run with 14 new shows. News and updates on shows below.
Other great news for comedy fans is that all 8pm tickets are only €10 and 6pm shows €5.

- Mon May 29th – Colm O’Regan Wants a Word won the Celtic Media Award as Best Radio Comedy Award last week. This is added to the Irish PPI Award won last December. Few tickets remain
- Tues May 30th – Ireland’s national comedy treasure Barry Murphy (Apres Match & Pictorial Weekly) hosts new panel show HYPOTHETICAL with all star cast. One night only & few tickets remaining
- Weds May 31st – Sr Assumpta from Father Ted Rose Henderson joins up with IFTA award winner Deirdre O’Kane and Caitriona Ennis (2013 & 2015 Best Theatre Actress nominee) in Fiona Looney‘s new sketch series WAITING. NOTE – one night only & NB this show is nearly sold out.
- Thurs June 1st (6pm) – Tommy Tiernan’s TV sidekick Fred Cooke joins live show HAHA Land – along with Paddy Cullivan (Late Late band & Camambert Quartet); Joe Rooney (Killinascully/Fr Ted) and Paul Woodful (Ding Dong Denny O’Reilly) in a comedy and music mash up – limited tickets at €5
- Thurs June 1st & Fri June 2nd – Ch 4’s King of Comedy Andrew Maxwell joins Don’t Quote Me! as team capt along with Sean Hughes, Colin Murphy & more. Friday night nearly sold out.
- Friday 2nd June (6pm) – Dancing with Stars & Wagon’s Den star Katherine Lynch talks to award winning writer Stefanie Pressneir (Can’t Cope Won’t Cope); Cutting Edge star Alison Spittle and writer for Aisling Bea and Ch4’s 8 Out Of 9 Cats Brona C. Titley about female comedy and tips for sucess in Ire and UK TV.
- Sat June 3rd – Katherine Lynch performs in DQM both shows along with Dave Fanning, Eleanor Tiernan and more. Few tickets remain.
See below an exclusive look at the full programme and what a better venue than the Project – home of creative innovation, new writing plus one of the 1st venues in Ireland to host live ‘alternative’ comedy. The 14 radio shows are recorded every evening Monday to Saturday and for 8pm performances audiences will enjoy 2 shows a night with an interval in between.
In 2017 Comedy Showhouse will feature the cream of Irish stage, comedy and broadcasting. MONDAY May 29th (€10) – Colm O’Regan Wants A Word
Winner of PPI award 2016 & and Celtic Media Award 2017 – Best Radio Comedy
Opening night of Comedy Showhouse features two brand new shows of the award winning show. The Cork born writer (Bolloxology, Irish Mammy) and comedian COLM O’REGAN Wants a Word (with comedy actors Tara Flynn & Paul Tylak plus special guests) and explores how the Irish use, abuse and amuse ourselves with the English language in our everyday lives. Tonight Colm wants a word about food and parenting. A unique and smart radio comedy show that already has sold out venues in January 2016 & March 2017 plus beat of competition from Ireland, Wales and Scotland to win Best Radio Comedy at the recent Celtic Media Awards.

TUESDAY May 30th (€10) – HYPOTHETICAL
The World Premiere of new comedy panel series Hypothetical presented by the nation’s favorite comedy star BARRY MURPHY (Apres Match, Pictorial Weekly). Barry is joined by comedy star guests Joe Rooney (Killinascully, Fr Ted); Colum McDonnell (Pictorial Weekly, Brigid & Eamon), Tara Flynn (Actress & singer) & Chris Kent (London based Cork born stand up & writer). If you like smart and funny panel performances packed with inspired improv & crafted jokes this is for you. WEDNESDAY May 31st (€10) – Waiting
The World Premier of a brand new ‘sketch’ comedy from award winning writer Fiona Looney (Dandelions, Callan’s Kicks). All the sketches are set in ‘a waiting situation’ (parent teachers, ante natal, funeral home, book signing etc) and are performed by the best stage performers in the business. The stellar cast includes –
- Caitriona Ennis – ISDA Award for Best Actress (2011), nominated for Best Actress Irish Times Theatre Awards 2013 and Best Supporting Actress Irish Times Theatre Awards 2015.
- Rose Henderson – credits include “Fair City” (RTE); “Raw” 3 (RTE/ITV); “Single Handed” 4 RTE/ITV) “Father Ted” (Sister Assumpta – Ch 4) & “Nighthawks” (RTE)
- Deirdre O’Kane – Credits include IFTA winning lead in Noble plus TV comedies Moone Boy (SKY); Paths To Freedom (RTE) and voices Gogglebox (TV3). Currently touring Ireland with her one woman show.

For various reasons outside our control some of the shows and acts may change.
Doors open 30 minutes before each show time and there is no admittance once the shows start recording.
6pm shows Thursday and Friday are 45 minutes long and ALL 8pm performances feature 2 x 45 minute shows with interval.
The festival will be hosted in The Project Art Centre on Essex Street Temple Bar and perfect for anyone visiting Dublin for the June Bank Holiday weekend . Join us there for 6 nights of live comedy recordings, which will be broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1 across 2017.
Grintage will be posting extensive biogs with clips on every show starting Tuesday May 2nd. Remember to avoid disappointment buy tickets early.
