Revolting Ireland
Revolting Ireland is a new primetime TV3 / BAI series produced by Sideline Productions and we need your help.
A new Facebook page for the series UP WITH THIS SORT OF THING (UWTSOT) has been set up to crowdsource personal memorabilia, audio/visual archive and eyewitness accounts of Social Unrest & Political Protest in Ireland (1950 to the present-day). See https://www.facebook.com/
Over the 4 hour TV3 series (in production autumn 2017 & broadcast in 2018), presenter Simon Delaney will explore the stories behind some of the most historic, controversial and catalytic protests in Ireland through the years – including major local and national strikes; marches; sit-ins; occupations; pickets and street protests (violent and non-violent) across the 4 corners of Ireland.
Were you involved? If so we are seeking personal video footage and photographs plus images of T-Shirts, flags, pickets, murals, handouts and posters. Were there also songs written and plays staged? The emergence of varied ‘tribes’ in modern Ireland – rockers, hippies, bikers, goths, punks etc – also created and introduced strong statements to social revolution. All related archive material sent in will add a valuable artistic and cultural perspective to the political side that is often well documented.
If you have content on super 8 films or video in any format we are happy to cover the cost of re-mastering and copying to DVD – and we’ll give you back a DVD too. Note no material will be used in the broadcast series unless we have prior written agreements with donors, family archive or institutions.
The series has been developed and will include – e.g. The Silver Revolution; Anti-War & Global protests; Reclaim The Streets; ‘Oscail Scoil Dun Chaoin’; Shell to Sea; Housing Action; Communities Against Drugs; Carnsore Point; British Embassy on Merrion Square, LGBT, Women’s & Father’s Rights; Farmer’s marches; Occupy Cork; Keep Rovers at Milltown; Dunnes Stores & Apartheid; Anti-Racism; Water Charges plus the various national strikes – teachers, gardai, bank and transport – down through the decades.
We appreciate your support. LIKE & SHARE with anybody who you feel can help with the vital ‘I Was There’ archive and eyewitness account. Feel free to post about a protest you were passionately involved with and reunite with fellow activists? Post and attach any memories now on the page and start a discussion. We request that all posts are respectful to all sides and any ‘extreme’ views will be reported and removed.
